This is considered CDL’s defining, cornerstone project is dedicated to improving the teaching of information literacy and research skills, to students at both the K-12 and college levels, through the development of a, freely-accessible, Web-based, multimedia database of motivating, tried-and-true lesson plans, contributed by and shared among classroom teachers and library media specialists throughout the world.

This six-year project supports a pre-professional program and enrichment activities that prepares teachers for new positions as library media specialists in high-need urban schools in New York State, with emphasis on New York City, Syracuse, Rochester, and Binghamton. Students in this program receive special workshops, fieldwork and internship experiences, and other activities addressing the needs of inner-city children.
This project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is intended to promote and improve the preparation of pre-service teachers to use advanced technology in their teaching. Members of CDL are assisting these partners in the development of school library media specialists in host schools and the delivery of joint training for pre-service students. This funding supported the first E*LIT (Enriching Literacy through Information Technology), an effort that encourages the development of children’s reading, writing, and oral presentation skills through access to noted children’s authors, whose work reflects an urban or rural experience.
