Preparing Librarians for Urban Schools (PLUS) (2002-2008)
This three-year project supports a pre-professional program and enrichment activities that prepares teachers for positions as library media specialists in high-need urban schools, with emphasis on three upstate New York school districts---Syracuse, Rochester, and Binghamton. Students in this program receive special workshops, fieldwork and internship experiences, and other activities addressing the needs of inner-city children.

Literacy in the 21st Century (2003-2004)
This funding supported the first
E*LIT (Enriching Literacy through Information Technology), an effort that encourages the development of children’s reading, writing, and oral presentation skills through access to noted children’s authors, whose work reflects an urban or rural experience. Classes in grades K-8 from upstate New York schools will create innovative technology-based projects that center on the life or work of the specific authors involved in this project.

Teaching with Technology (2004-2007)
This project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is intended to promote and improve the preparation of pre-service teachers to use advanced technology in their teaching. Members of CDL are assisting these partners in the development of school library media specialists in host schools and the delivery of joint training for pre-service students. In addition, CDL members will also provide mentoring services to teachers and librarians and help coordinate student/mentor teams in their development of technology projects.
